It’s that time of year again – summer is OFFICIALLY over and fall is here. As the season changes, so do our clothes, decor and daily skincare rituals.
As we make changes to our clothing wardrobe, we should also start looking at our skincare top shelf. This is the time of the year when your beautiful, glowing skin may be starting to feel a little dry and may even be breaking out. You might be thinking it could be stress or hormonal, however it is most likely due to the shift in the weather and seasonal change.
As your injector, I am here to tell you that your skin doesn’t have to suffer with the seasonal shift. There are a lot of great products and subtle tweaks you can make to your skincare routine that will help your skin transition into the colder weather and help to maintain your skin barrier and integrity.
These are my top tips that you can incorporate to your daily skincare routine in order to help add in a little extra moisture and hydration to your skin as the seasons change. I have used, tried and tested many products in the market. See below for some of my top tips and picks that are all under $50 and you can easily buy them through the links provided or you can find them at your local drugstore.
Add in a Hyaluronic Acid Serum
As the seasons change, you might be noticing that your makeup is creasing and some of the fine lines or wrinkles might be looking more visible. This is why a hyaluronic acid serum is a great option to add into your skincare routine. You can use this right before applying your morning moisturizer or even mix it directly into it. This will help to hydrate the skin, plump up any fine lines and wrinkles and your makeup will apply much smoother. The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid is one of my favourites for a cost effective way to add in hyaluronic acid.
Add in a Facial Oil
I love using facial oils as part of my night time routine. Since I have combination to oily skin, I tend to go for lightweight oils that will easily absorb into the skin and sink down into the deeper layers of the skin in order to provide maximum moisture and benefits. One of my favourites is the Honest Beauty Organic Facial Oil which is hypoallergenic and free of any harsh chemicals that can harm the skin.
Switch Your Daily Moisturizer from a Gel to a Cream
Every year I adjust my moisturizer when the seasons change to help my skin feel comfortable and reduce chances of irritation due to the shift in weather. In the summers, a gel cream is usually enough to provide the amount of moisture that I require. In the fall/winter months, it is a good idea to go for a heavier moisturizer that will help reduce the chances of dry patches and lock in all of the treatments you use on a daily basis. A great drugstore moisturizer is the CeraVe Daily Face and Body Moisturizer which can be used morning or night and provides great non-irritating hydration for the skin. I also love the La Roch Posay Face Moisturizer which contains niacinamide and ceramides to brighten the skin and lock in essential moisture and is great for sensitive skin. Another clean favourite of mine is the Honest Beauty The Daily Calm Lightweight Moisturizer which is a great moisturizer for those who like the feeling of a gel but want something only slightly heavier for the colder months. Moisturizing is a key part of anti-aging and can really make a huge difference in the integrity of your skin and to prevent signs of aging.
Use under eye gel masks
Under eye gels have become a staple in my skincare routine. The Magicstripes Undereye Gels are my personal favourites and they contain caffeine and niacinamide for a depuffing and brightening effect. For more of an anti-aging mask, try the Juice Beauty Instant Eye Lift Algae Mask.
Use a weekly sheet mask
Sheet masks have become a staple for me and I tend to mask more often in the colder months than I do in the summer. Sheet masks are an excellent way to deliver moisture into the skin and add back radiance and glow to the skin. Sheet masks like the Magicstripes Hyaluronic Acid Mask are a great way to boost your skin’s moisture on a weekly basis. The best part is that they are full of wonderful ingredients and you can squeeze out the excess serum and use it on your hands as well for a 2-in-1 treatment. If you are looking for a reusable version then check out the Honest Beauty Reusable Magic Silicone Sheet Mask where you can apply your own serum and lock it in with the mask.
Add in a hydrating sleeping mask
There are many great hydrating masks that you can use for an extra top up to your
evening skincare if you are feeling a little extra dry at night. The Laneige Water Sleeping Mask is a beautiful smooth sleeping mask, lightweight yet powerfully hydrating. Aquaphor is an oldie but a goodie if you have extreme dryness or patches of eczema that you want to get rid of. This will help to add a barrier to the skin and lock in all of the skincare that you applied before it.
