Serums

These should be used before the use of a facial moisturizer to help manage your ultimate skin needs such as acne, dry skin, wrinkles, blackheads/whiteheads, and dullness. Using affordable drugstore serums is an easy way to incorporate concentrated specific products into your skincare routine. This should be used once or twice a day depending on your skin needs and what product you are using, as some are only dedicated for nighttime such as retinol.

Serums that are beneficial to mostly all skin types are the following:

*Disclaimer: do not use if you are allergic to it*

Vitamin C: This helps protect the skin from free radical damage caused by the sun’s UV rays. It also helps with hyperpigmentation, discolored skin tones, dullness, and wrinkles making it anti-aging. Using this serum in the morning alongside retinol at night can help improve the chances of optimal brightening.

Hyaluronic Acid (HA): This helps to hydrate the skin therefore it helps to reduce wrinkles and lines that can form on the skin. Our own skin contains HA as it is the main component that maintains our skin’s structure. Hence, using this drug store serum will help to add to the existing HA in our skin and help hydrate.

Retinol: This is used to help increase cell production and by doing this we are able to increase the collagen production in the skin. Collagen brightens the skin, plumps the skin, reduces the appearance of wrinkles and has anti-aging properties. This should be used at night as it can make the skin sensitive to sunlight during the day. Hence, using sunscreen the following morning after applying your drug-store retinol is the best way to go! Also, to begin incorporating retinol into your skin care routine, use a pea sized amount every other night.
